About Jim Gray's Petrified Wood Company

At Jim Grays, our work begins long before a piece ever reaches the showroom floor.

From locating material in the field, to cutting and polishing each stone, we remain closely involved in every step of the process. This hands-on approach allows us to preserve the natural character of each piece while highlighting its unique patterns, colors, and history.

Our connection to our land runs deep. We hold mineral rights to 3,000 acres of land near the Petrified Forest National Park, giving us direct access to some of Arizona's most remarkable petrified wood. By working with the material from start to finish, we ensure authenticity, quality, and care in every piece we offer.

Visiting our store is more than a shopping experience; it's an opportunity to explore millions of years of natural history in one place. Guests can view rare fossils, ancient artifacts, and museum-quality specimens. Take a walk through our cactus garden, or relax near the koi pond surrounded by petrified wood. One of our most talked-about features is "Wild Bill", a 50 million year old alligator fossil on display.

For those who enjoy hands-on discovery, our rock yard allows visitors to select their own stones and minerals and purchase them by the pound! This is a favorite for families, collectors, and curious explorers.

Whether you're fascinated by geology or simply passing through Holbrook along Route 66, we invite you to slow down, explore, and experience a place where time, stone, and craftsmanship meet.

What Makes Us Different

Unlike many shops, we handle much of our work in-house; from sourcing, cutting, polishing and displaying. This hands-on approach allows us to maintain quality, authenticity, and respect for the material at every stage. Our knowledge comes from the decades and experience working directly with petrified wood and fossils, not just selling them!
